About Us

KidzKare is a Rochester, Michigan based 501(c)3 non-profit organization. KidzKare was founded in 2011 by Jay Mitchell, MD, a pediatrician at Kidz1st Pediatrics in Rochester Hills since 1991, who is now retired from active practice and devoting himself to KidzKare. KidzKare seeks to partner with community members, non-profits, for-profits, municipalities, schools, and other individuals and entities to improve the present and future lives of our local children.

Vision
Meeting the needs of the children in our community is the goal.  We seek to partner and collaborate with businesses and other non-profits to serve the children who need us most.
Our Board
Jay Mitchell, MD - Founder and Board Chair

Jay is a lifelong resident of southeast Michigan his whole life and in the Rochester area since 1988 despite hating winter. As a practicing pediatrician and founder of Kidz1st Pediatrics, his focus is on preventive health, patient education, and helping children in low income families. Along with his business partner and dedicated staff, he founded KidzKare in 2011 to address these needs on a more community wide basis. He retired from active practice in 2015 to devote all of his time to KidzKare. He is married to Karen, a family physician, and has two grown sons (no grandchildren...yet).

Bradley Barnes, MD - Vice Chair

Brad has lived in Rochester for 50 years and recently retired as pediatrician after a very productive 50 year career. Brad was a founding member of the KidzKare Board in 2011 and was also a founding board member of the Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition. Brad is married to Barb, a founding board member of the Rochester Area Youth Assistance program, and has 8 grandchildren (no great-grandchildren...yet). Brad and Barb are avid bicyclers and spent their 60th wedding anniversary last summer on a 60 mile bike trip around Oakland and Macomb counties with dozens of (very hot and tired) family and friends.

Michele Dunham - Secretary

Michele joined the KidzKare board in 2014. After enjoying more than 30 years as an elementary school teacher at University Hills, Michele has been the Education and Program Coordinator at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm. She is also a master gardener and enjoys time with her grandchildren in Chicago.

James Clark - Treasurer

James joined the KidzKare board in 2015. He is a Rochester native who met the love of his life in Cleveland and came back to Rochester to raise their family. James is a financial advisor at BluMark Advisors in Rochester Hills. He is married to Andrea and has two beautiful children.
