Raising Rochester is a community based, volunteer supported network of raised bed gardens. Organic square foot gardening and urban market garden practices are used to provide fresh produce to local low income families and teach children and youth about gardening and the importance of healthy nutrition. Garden beds are located at local businesses, organizations, schools, and homes.
Our first Raising Rochester garden was built and planted in 2013. All garden sites are maintained and harvested by community volunteers. Through 2017, we have harvested nearly 8,000lbss of fresh produce with over 70% of that harvest donated to clients of the Rochester Food Pantry for local, low income families.
